In the film the power of food is shown through Babette making the french food for the village, and the villagers liking it. Despite the ethnics they live by they still like the food. Which is very significant because the movie uses the food as a way to bring people together. Also in this case it is very different food that they have never had before. The food serves as a means of exposing them to different foods. This although it is not a massive thing does serve as something of a conflict for the film. Even though they did end up liking it, they were very hesitant, but after eating the food they do end up liking it. In addition there is the aspect of why they were hesitant at first. It is because of their puritan beliefs that result in this. Which is taken to mean not eating very fancy, or special food. Instead they eat very basic foods, which is what they mostly eat. However, it does beg the question whether food that people eat should be not necessarily fancy, but whether it should include foods like alcohol for example. The people do not want to try the food for this reason. Because they feel it is against what they believe, however through the power of the food they learn there is nothing wrong with the fine French food and drinks.
Mason: This is really a very good reflection about the film. However, spice up your blog by adding images and videos.
